At Somedays, we're building technology to help people spend less time saying “someday” and more time actually living it. That requires some information.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Vertical 40, L.L.C., a Utah limited liability company (“Vertical 40,” “Somedays,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have about it.
This Policy applies to the Somedays mobile app and the related features, communications, and services we provide (together, the “Services”). Our website, livesomedays.com, has its own privacy policy. By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy.
When you create a Somedays account, we collect:
Somedays signs you in with a one-time code sent to your email. There is no password. Somedays is available only to people who are 18 years of age or older.
A “Someday” is something you want to do. When you create and use Somedays, we collect what you add, such as:
You can create your first Someday before you have an account. It stays on your device until you finish signing up, and it's then saved to your new account.
Photos you add are stored privately. Location and other metadata are removed on your device before upload and again on our servers. Each photo is screened automatically for unsafe content before anyone else can see it (see section 4).
We collect the friend requests you send and accept, the people you block, and the comments, replies and reactions (“cheers”) you post on Somedays.
If you allow Somedays to access your phone's contacts, the app turns each contact's phone numbers and email addresses into a one-way code (a SHA-256 hash) on your device and sends only those codes to our servers. We compare them with the codes for people who already have Somedays accounts and return only the people who matched. We don't store the codes you send, and we don't receive your contacts' names. A match shows you that person's name, username and photo, never their email or phone number.
Anyone who has your email address or verified mobile number in their contacts can find you this way. Adding a mobile number is optional.
If you invite someone by email, we send them one invitation email on your behalf. If you invite someone by text message, the message is sent from your own phone. Either way, we keep the name and email address (or a partly hidden phone number) you invited, so you can see who you've invited, along with a one-way code of their email or number, so we can connect you when they join. Invitations are deleted when the person joins, when you withdraw them, or after 90 days. Anyone who receives an invitation email can stop all future invitations with the link in it; we then keep only a one-way code of their address so we never email it again.
If you report a user, a Someday or a comment, or block someone, we collect the accounts involved, the reason you give, any note you add, and the action we take.
If you contact us through the app's Contact Support form or by email, we collect your email address and what you send us.
If you speak a Someday instead of typing it, the speech is turned into text by your phone's speech recognition (provided by Apple or Google). We receive only the resulting text.
When the app crashes or hits a serious error, a crash report is sent to Firebase Crashlytics (Google). It includes your device type, operating system, app version, the technical details of the error, and an internal account ID. It doesn't include your name, email address or the content of your Somedays.
Like any internet service, our servers and service providers receive technical information such as your IP address when the app connects to them, and keep it in short-lived security and diagnostic logs.
As of this Policy's last update, the app doesn't use advertising identifiers, advertising trackers, analytics that profile you across other companies' apps or websites, or session-replay technology. If we add an analytics, attribution or advertising tool that materially changes how we use your information, we'll update this Policy first and provide any notice or consent required by law.
Somedays uses only the home location you choose to enter. When you search for your city or postcode, the text you type is sent to Google Places to suggest matching places, and we keep the city, region, state, country and, if you choose, postcode of the one you pick. We don't collect your device's precise GPS location. If we add a feature that needs it, we'll ask for your permission first.
We use your information to create and run your account, show your Somedays and profile to the people you choose, connect you with friends, send reminders and in-app notifications, provide customer support, and otherwise operate the Services.
Somedays uses Google Gemini to suggest action steps for a Someday and to suggest its category. Only the Someday's title is sent to Gemini. Your name, email address and other account details are never sent. We use Gemini on a paid plan under which Google doesn't use these requests to train its models. Each account has a monthly allowance of AI suggestions.
Photos are screened by Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch before anyone else can see them, and a photo that fails screening is deleted. Comments, descriptions and bios are checked against a list of prohibited words. We keep a record of each automated screening decision. We review reports, and we may remove content or suspend or remove accounts that break our Terms of Service.
We also use information to detect spam, fraud and abuse, to enforce our Terms, to stop removed users from returning, and to comply with the law.
We email you sign-in codes and other messages needed to run your account, and, if you add a mobile number, a verification code by text message. We may also send welcome and product emails, which always include an unsubscribe link. With your permission, the app may send push notifications about your Somedays and your friends; you can turn these off in your phone's settings or in the app's notification settings.
We may use aggregated or de-identified information that can't reasonably identify you to understand how Somedays is used and to improve it.
As of this Policy's last update, Somedays doesn't use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Automated screening may hold back or delete a photo or comment, and you can contact us if you believe that was a mistake.
Somedays is a social app, and some information is shared with other users for it to work:
Every new account is automatically friends with the Somedays founder's account, so the founder can see what your friends can see. You can unfriend the founder at any time.
Your email address, mobile number, postcode and contact matches are never shown to other users. People you block can't see your profile or Somedays, and you can't see theirs.
Once you share something with another person, we can't control what they do with copies, such as screenshots.
We share information with other users as described in section 6, and with the service providers below, who process it on our behalf to run Somedays and aren't allowed to use it for their own purposes:
We may also access, keep or disclose information when we reasonably believe it's necessary to comply with the law or legal process, enforce our Terms, investigate fraud or abuse, protect the rights, property or safety of our users, Vertical 40 or others, or respond to an emergency involving danger to a person.
If Vertical 40 is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, sale of assets or similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.
Vertical 40 doesn't sell personal information and doesn't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California and other state privacy laws. If that changes, we'll update this Policy first and provide the opt-out required by law. Where required by law, we'll treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal or other recognized opt-out preference signal as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information associated with the browser or device that sent it.
The app doesn't use cookies or advertising trackers. It stores your sign-in session and settings on your device so you stay signed in.
We keep your information for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete it as described in section 11. We keep certain information after deletion only where it's reasonably necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, prevent fraud or abuse, or maintain safety and security.
You can permanently delete your account in the app, without contacting us, at Account > Manage Account > Delete Account. Deletion happens immediately. It removes your profile, your Somedays and everything attached to them (steps, photos, comments and cheers), your friendships, your contact-matching information, and your stored files.
Some records are kept after deletion, with the link to your account removed: reports you made or that were made about you, and records of automated screening decisions, so we can keep people safe and enforce our Terms. Emails you sent to our support team stay in our support inbox. Copies in our service providers' encrypted backups are deleted as those backups expire, normally within a few weeks, and crash reports expire after 90 days.
Information you shared with other people, such as screenshots they took, may remain on their devices.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
You can view and change most of your information in the app, and delete your account there at any time. To exercise any other right, email us at hello@livesomedays.com. We may need to verify your identity first. We won't discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
If we decline to act on your request, in whole or in part, you can appeal by emailing hello@livesomedays.com with the subject line “Privacy Appeal” within 30 days of our response. We'll acknowledge your appeal within 10 business days and respond within 45 days, or up to 90 days if we tell you we need more time. If we deny your appeal, we'll explain why in writing and, where the law requires, tell you how to contact the relevant regulator.
Residents of California and certain other U.S. states have additional rights under state privacy laws. These include the rights to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to access, correct and delete it; to get a portable copy; and to opt out of its sale or sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. You can exercise these rights as described in section 12, or through an authorized agent where the law allows.
In the past 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information, from you and from your device, for the purposes described in section 4: identifiers (name, email address, username, mobile number, internal account ID, IP address); personal information you provide, such as a profile photo and bio; general location you choose to enter; photos and other content you create; information about your activity in the app, such as Somedays, friends, comments and cheers; and technical information from crash reports. We don't collect sensitive personal information beyond what's needed to sign you in and provide the Services, and we don't use it to infer characteristics about you. We disclose these categories only to the service providers listed in section 7, for the business purposes described there, and we don't sell or share them.
If you're a resident of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Nevada or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, and that law applies to our processing of your information, you have similar rights, which you can exercise as described in section 12.
Somedays is operated by Vertical 40, L.L.C. in the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States, where our service providers operate. Privacy laws there may differ from those where you live. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. These include encryption in transit, private storage for photos, and access rules enforced by our database so that other users can only see what this Policy says they can. No app, website or method of transmission is completely secure. Keep access to your email account secure, since sign-in codes are sent there, and contact us if you believe someone has accessed your Somedays account.
Somedays is intended only for people 18 years of age or older. We don't knowingly allow people under 18 to create accounts. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we'll delete it and its information. If you believe someone under 18 is using Somedays, please contact us at hello@livesomedays.com.
Somedays may link to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
Somedays will evolve, and our privacy practices may evolve with it. If we make material changes, we'll give notice as required by law, for example in the app, on our website or by email. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when this Policy was last revised.
